Once a marriage is over, it is over. There isn’t any reason to try to prolong the inevitable. The possibility of a rapid divorce is something that appeals to many people. If you are one of these people, you need to know what you are facing with your divorce.

There are several different things that you must consider when you are looking for a fast divorce. Here are a few to get you started:

Meet the requirements

California has some specific requirements for getting a divorce. One of the important ones is that you have to meet the residency requirements. One spouse has to live in California for at least six months before filing. Additionally, one spouse has to have lived in the county where the divorce petition is filed for at least three months.

Come to an agreement

While you can get a divorce in California even if your spouse doesn’t want one, it is a lot better if you and your ex can come to an agreement about everything related to the divorce. This is sometimes challenging but if you don’t want to be stuck in the process for longer than absolutely necessary, you will put your differences aside.

If you and your ex can come to agreements about everything, you can file for an uncontested divorce. This means that you and your ex aren’t going to fight the terms of the divorce.

Gather and fill out documents

You need to gather and fill out documents for the divorce. If you and your ex can get together, getting them all handled in one day is likely going to be possible. Once you have the documents all gathered and filled out, you have completed one of the most difficult steps in the divorce process.

File the documents

In California, a divorce can’t be finalized any sooner than six months after the petition is filed, even if it is an uncontested divorce. If you and your ex do use the same day divorce method, the clock can start right away since you and your ex have both signed all the necessary paperwork. There isn’t any waiting to see if your ex responds to the petition or anything similar.

No matter what, it is imperative that you protect your interests throughout the process. This is a difficult time that can be stressful on your emotions, but just remember that the ultimate goal is to start out your new life as quickly as you can.
